UNIQA poistovna, a.s., is part of the biggest Austrian insurance holding UNIQA Group, which was established in 1999 as a result of a merger of Bundeslander Versicherung, Austria Collegialitat and Raiffeisen Versicherung.

A proof of successful business of the whole UNIQA Group is an A rating assigned by Standard & Poor's. The Group confirms its expansion by systematic economic growth.

History

The history of UNIQA poistovna, a.s. dates back to 1990 when the company pursued business under the trading name of Poistovna OTCINA. Poistovna OTCINA was the second insurance company in Slovakia being preceded only by Slovenska poistovna. From the very beginning, reliability, financial stability and insurance services on a high level were among its characteristics.

• 1990 - Poistovna OTCINA was founded by the Ministry of Agriculture of the SR, Agrobanka Praha, a.s. and minor shareholders of farm cooperatives. The Head Office of this insurance company was situated in Nitra. Its original orientation towards agricultural insurance was strategically changed already during the first years of existence of the company.
• 1994 - an Austrian insurance company, Bundeslander Versicherung AG, purchased a property share of Agrobanka Praha and became the major shareholder of Poistovna OTCINA.
• 1996 - The Head Office was moved to Bratislava. Poistovna OTCINA established branches in the whole territory of Slovakia.
• 1998 - The insurance company, Bundeslander Versicherung AG, increased its property share to 99.36% of shares.
• 1999 - The largest Austrian insurance companies, Bundeslander Versicherung, Austria Collegialitat and Raiffeisen Versicherung, merged to give rise to the largest Austrian insurance holding, UNIQA Group. Poistovna OTCINA, the daughter company of Bundeslander Versicherung became a part of this strong multinational concern.
• 2001 - Based on a decision of UNIQA Group Austria, Poistovna OTCINA changed its trading name to UNIQA poistovna (February 2^nd, 2001)
• 2004 - As a result of consolidation with R+V Poistovna, UNIQA poistovna assumed all liabilities and receivables of dissolved R+V Poistovna (July 1^st, 2004).

Present

The most typical feature of today is a formation of uniform European structures. The UNIQA Group decided to express its Europe-wide coverage by changing the trading names of all its daughter companies and by performing activities under the brand 'UNIQA' in all countries. A uniform market pursuance under the brand of UNIQA has many positive effects and benefits:
